Jubel Center for the Arts
43,000 SF
Saint Louis, Missouri

Serving collectively as a new main entry for all, a first-class visual and performing arts center, and the heart of school-wide worship, the Jubel Center for the Arts was designed to be the front door that Lutheran High School South’s campus never had.

The project’s design and materiality were inspired by the original 1957 structure – large expanses of glass, recessed into an architectural frame play off the historic mid-century detailing and a golden brick blend matches the original exterior façade. Interior flow is shaped from the existing building’s plan and the interior material palette features accents which complement the original structure’s use of wood throughout. In the end, the aim was to craft a cohesive extension that completes the original campus – to add a building that appears as if it has always been there.

The Center includes a 626-seat state-of-the-art theater, a music hall, an art studio, a coffee shop, a spirit store, and study spaces for students to use throughout the day. The theater, which doubles as the school’s new home for worship, is also available to the public in support of local art initiatives and to build community for years to come.
