This space was the final component of a five-phase project for Nike’s Air Max Manufacturing Facility at Research Park in Saint Charles, Missouri. The Community Center serves as a new central connecting hub for employees to gather, eat, learn, and play. Wellness rooms, mothers’ rooms, lockers, and a game room support the primary functions of a dining hall, training room, fitness center, and a half-court basketball court.
Being one of only two facilities globally that manufacture the air cushions used in many of Nike’s iconic shoes, the concept of air was employed as the primary organizing and decision-making principle – everything from the layout to the details have been carefully crafted in service and in celebration of this concept. The sport components of the program float above and connect to the ground floor café through a central atrium. The mechanical ducts have been carefully routed to showcase the movement of air. The result is a space which not only offers countless amenities to employees, and not only encourages and fosters culture through play, but represents the DNA of the group, and the outstanding role they play in Nike’s success story.
